Narconon: Interventions Can Lead to Great Success!

Don't think that because a drug addict needs an intervention that treatment will fail. Narconon claims one of the top success rates in the country.  Seventy-six percent of their graduates are still drug and alcohol free after a year.  This is a much better success rate than the twenty percent average that other programs claim.  Narconon utilizes a groundbreaking method of drug and alcohol recovery that makes it so promising.

Narconon Vista Bay, a top Narconon organization, usesmethods that are very in-depth and complete.  Students are totally cleansed from drugs and poisons and transformed mentally, spiritually, and physically.  The belief they utilize is holistic, meaning that the person fully recovers in all areas of his or her life.  By working on all of these parts that make up a functioning human being, clients at Vista Bay are given the greatest chances of remaining drug-free, happy individuals.

Narconon Vista Bay is very benevolent in its style.  For people interested in the program, they offer one flat price with no time limit for completion.  They have a specific goal set that each student needs to reach to graduate from the program.  Just as people absorb knowledge and advance at varying rates, each student progresses through the program at a different rate.  A student may finish the program in four months, six months, a year, or longer and the cost is the same.

Overall, Narconon is having superb success daily.  Get in touch with their intake counselors who are there to answer your questions today. In other parts of the world,, try Narconon East US and for those in Canada interested in help or treatment, visit Narconon Canada.

Narconon Believes That You Can Get Sober Anywhere!

Most people don’t really ponder drug treatment programs such as Narconon unless they have been affected in some way by addiction, whether it is their own chemical dependency or that of someone they love, and when we do wonder about drug and alcohol recovery programs, we tend to think of icy, sterile, institutions. We think of situations with mistreated patients and anguish.

That is not really how recovery programs operate.  This recovery facility is nestled in the mountains and secluded amongst the trees.  There are trails to hike and things to do that you may not get exposed to if you live elsewhere.  The setting is of upmost importance when you are addressing the root issues of your addiction.

You can’t stay in the same place or around the same people that contribute to your addiction.  You must go away from the chaos and redefine your life.  Taking yourself out of the negative mayhem is a step toward the new you.  All the press about celebrities going in and out of rehab has most likely left several people fed-up in respects to drug and alcohol recovery programs.  Their conduct can make recovery programs seem like they do not work.  But they do work for those people who are ready to change their lives.

Sobriety cannot be achieved without the help of trained professionals, like at Narconon and a commitment from the addicted individual to get clean and sober.  This commitment is what will make you different from the celebrities who fail. For those on the east coast looking for rehab, try Narconon East US and for those north of the border interested in help or treatment, visit Narconon Canada.

Drug Related Crime According to Narconon:

Drug addicts are six times more likely to commit crimes than people not addicted to drugs.  Narconon thinks it is no secret that drugs and crime are frequently related, but precisely who is doing what?  Are the pot heads killing people?  Are the crack heads robbing the local grocery store?  Are the ecstasy freaks stealing cars?  Which drugs are most usually linked with violent crimes, and what are the indicators?

The biggest drug problem in the United States is with Alcohol.  This often abused, legal substance accounts for half of the driving fatalities in the nation.  With 15 million Americans addicted to alcohol, and 90 billion dollars spent on it per year, no matter how you look at it, this is a problem that affects you.

You can attribute more than just car accidents to this toxic substance.  Alcohol is more closely linked to violent crimes than any other drug.  In 1998, the Bureau of Justice Statistics reported that 3 million crimes that occur each year have been while under the influence of alcohol. Among domestic abuse cases, 75% of the incidents involved alcohol.

If Alcohol is number one, which drug comes in at second?  It should be of no surprise that it is Marijuana.  It is the most used illicit drug in the U.S.  Nearly 70 million citizens over the age of 12 have tried it.  Strangely, it is the largest crop in California. Ironically, nearly three-fourths of the crimes related to marijuana are charges of possession and distribution (non-violent crimes).  Marijuana is often considered the gateway drug, however, there is no positive confirmation that its use leads to a person to use or become addicted to other substances.

Over two-thirds of state and federal prisoners are imprisoned for the sale and distribution of cocaine or crack.  This is why the United States government has described crack cocaine as being more directly linked to violent crimes than any other controlled substance.
The key link between cocaine and criminal activity stems from users stealing money and property to support their habits.  This usually takes the form of burglary and robbery.

Methamphetamines are also directly related to vicious crimes, predominantly domestic violence, child abuse, aggravated assault, property damage and murder (NDIC, 2001).  A study by Fight Crime: Invest in Kids, showed that the vicious crimes committed by meth addicts are very much on the rise.

The most popular type of crime that heroin addicts commit is theft.  The highly addictive nature of this drug gets addicts in a lot of trouble.  They will literally beg, borrow, and steal to get their next fix.   Generally heroin users are not committing violent crimes, but crimes involving burglary and theft.

The crimes related to ecstasy usually involve selling the drug or just possessing it.  The charges involving sales may sometimes be linked to violence, including drive-by shootings and aggravated assaults in extreme circumstances.

Other controlled substances that are linked to crime are:  Rohypnol (“Roofies”), Ketamine (“Special K”), GHB, and OxyContin.  Roofies, Special K, and GHB are often connected to crimes of violence against women.  They are sometimes referred to as “date rape” drugs used to spike the drink of an unsuspecting target.  OxyContin is becoming more and more popular in our country and is also beginning to be linked to crimes.  Crimes related to OxyContin are usually non-violent ones like burglary to fund an addiction.  Doctors have been arrested for “over-prescribing” this drug.

It would be a delusion to think that all drug users are involved in violent criminal behavior.  What we know to be fact is that different types of crimes are linked to different types of drugs, and that a drug addict, no matter how extreme, is a prisoner of his own making and the only one who can set himself free.  Regardless of the drug, Narconon can provide help to those suffering from addiction.  Scheduling an intervention is often necessary but any Narconon center can assist in this process to get your loved one the help they need.

Narconon Asks: What Drug and Alcohol Recovery Program Will Work For You?

It appears now more than ever that there are many more people abusing prescription medications than illegal drugs.  As parents, we are encouraged by advertisements to keep harmful medicines out of our children’s reach.  Innumerous news reports bring up school shootings and the association that violence has with these prescription medications.  These are the same medications which are securely locked away in pharmacies, which we're instructed to keep away from our kids and which can induce many different side effects including anxiety, violence, seizures and even suicidal tendencies and thoughts.

I regrettably encountered the same type of situation attempting to find a good drug and alcohol recovery program for my sister.  She abused crystal methamphetamine, and all of the recovery programs we sent her to prescribed drugs to her within minutes of meeting with her. People addicted to alcohol or drugs, especially opiates, can have wretched withdrawals which can create a strong need to continue using.  While going through withdrawal, an addict will do anything to acquire more of the drugs or alcohol he or she is abusing.  He will become much more unethical because of this high need to replenish his mind and body with chemicals.  The behavior of the alcoholic or drug addict could become criminal, violent or risky because of this chemical dependency.  But if you take away drugs and alcohol from the equation, and their subsequent withdrawal, you take away the need to continue using, and therefore the need to engage in such unethical behavior.  The American system has for so long associated mental health with drug and alcohol addiction that these behaviors which are clearly linked to drug and alcohol abuse and are for the most part illegal are now classified as “mental illnesses.”  By removing drugs from a person's life, he or she will not have such criminal or insane tendencies.

Underneath the drugs and alcohol was a REASON my sister began her road to abusing crystal methamphetamine.  We wanted her to research that for herself instead of receiving a band-aid or a quick-fix.  It made no sense at all to me that additional drugs were going to be a solution.  I saw people turn into zombies from these drugs and become completely addicted to them and even physically incapable of withdrawing from them without going through worse withdrawals than they ever did from illegal street drugs.

So what can I suggest to other parents, sisters, brothers, children or friends who have someone they love addicted to drugs?  Certainly, you can attempt the “dual-diagnosis” route, but you will wind up with the same problem, not repaired, and a new form of chemical addiction.  My sister was never mentally ill.  She was addicted to drugs, and those chemicals altered who she was and how she behaved.  This made her appear mentally ill.  Someone withdrawing from meth may seem to be a paranoid schizophrenic, but this is because of the meth.  This is a reaction the mind and body is having and a symptom of withdrawal.  Not mental illness.

The most effective program I have discovered, and the one which my sister, who now has ten years clean and sober, went through, is one which concentrated on personalized, in-patient and long-term treatment.  It is called Narconon, or Narconon Vista Bay and is located in California. No additional drugs were given to her.  It is completely holistic.  They only use vitamins and minerals, exercise and homeopathic remedies.  The program permitted her to literally sweat out the chemicals which were acting as poisons in her body and mind.   She felt completely restored and was able to make a brand new start.  She is no longer dependent on chemicals to feel good.  She depends on her own innate abilities.  She is physically clean and mentally clear.

There is an old school of thought which teaches that all a person needs to survive is within him.  Today, we live in a world where if you have a chronic headache you take a Tylenol.  If you want to lose weight you take the latest diet pill.  If you are abusing drugs and alcohol you trade off your addictions with new chemicals.  The best advice I could give anybody searching for the right recovery program is to find one that supports the idea of getting to the root of the problem.  Every person has all the happiness he will ever need within him.

All About Drug Treatment Programs and Narconon Vista Bay

Making the decision to go to a Drug Rehabilitation program can be a frightening and daunting affair, much less a Narconon inpatient program.  Once the decision is made, there remains the task of figuring out which one is the best for you or your loved one.
There are many Drug Treatment centers around the country that approach Drug Treatment differently.  It’s therefore vitally important to find a treatment that suits the individual, as well as the addiction.
No matter what type of Drug Treatment program you choose, three factors must be present for the program to be successful:

Three Stages of Rehabilitation
Detoxification – where the body is relieved of the chemicals and poisons that are present within it.
Therapy – where the body and mind learn to cope with the withdrawal from the chemicals they were reliant on.
Integration – where the individual learns to cope with stress and live a productive, drug-free life, with a view to integrating back into society.

Residential vs Outpatient

The personality of the individual, the degree of dependence he or she is under, and his or her social background should all be considered when determining the most suitable treatment.
There are residential treatment centers and outpatient treatment centers.  Residential treatment is usually a more intense form of therapy than outpatient treatment.  Other types include voluntarily outpatient treatment, where the individual will live and work under normal circumstances, but attend counseling sessions and group classes.

Types of Detox

Depending on the type of treatment, drug detoxification may vary.  Most rehab centers, however, provide treatment to avoid the symptoms of physical withdrawal.  Most treatments incorporate counseling and therapy during rehab to help with this process.

Traditional Detox

Traditional treatments involve a detoxification period that addicts normally find debilitating and painful.  Statistics have shown that under traditional methods of detox, 85 to 90 percent of patients have suffered a relapse within a year. This prolonged method has as many supporters as it does detractors, but under the right circumstances, can prove to be fruitful.

The 12-Step Program

The 12-Step Program is a set of principles that provide guidance for recovering addicts.  It was originally developed for alcoholics, but also has been used successfully in drug rehabilitation.
It involves the addict coming to terms with their addiction under the following principles:
- admitting that one is powerless over drugs and alcohol
- recognizing a greater power can give them strength
- examining past transgressions
- making amends for these transgressions
- learning to live a new life with a new code of behavior
- helping others who suffer from the same addictions

Rapid Detox

Rapid detox can be a viable treatment for certain patients, particularly those suffering from addiction to heroin, prescription painkillers and other opiates. The most common rapid detox is the Waismann Method, which involves cleansing the opiate receptors in the patient’s brain of narcotics while the patient is under general anesthesia. The patient reportedly experiences no conscious withdrawal, and is able to return home within a few days. This method can be dangerous, however, and should not be entered into without discussions with experienced and trained medical professionals.  Also, this method does not address any underlying causes of addiction or offer any change in behavior, which can be the most important part of drug rehabilitation.  It is strictly a physical detoxification.

Holistic Treatment

Holistic treatment addresses the root causes of addiction.  It can also provide addicts with the opportunity to learn new job and life skills they can use to prevent relapse.

The Narconon Program at Narconon Vista Bay

For individuals with severe drug addictions, a long term inpatient drug rehab program is most suitable. The Narconon Program is unique in that it boasts a 76% success rate.  A person does not graduate the Program after a standard amount of time; he or she graduates the Program when rehabilitation is complete.
Treatment at the Narconon – Vista Bay Program generally lasts 3 to 5 months, and does not use psychiatric medications as part of its philosophy, but instead eliminates accumulated drug residuals from the patient’s body through a natural regimen of exercise, vitamins and sauna.  Once the body is cleansed of toxic residues, the individual then addresses the causes of his or her addiction.   This is a life-skills process where the individual learns what led him or her to drugs in the first place, and then takes steps to confront the past, repair any damage done, and start with a clean slate.  Graduates of the Narconon – Vista Bay Program often claim that they feel renewed as though they had never used drugs.

Whatever the treatment decided upon, for any drug rehab to work the core of the program must involve the individual.  Only a combination of detox and therapy can boost an addict’s self-esteem and confidence to the point they feel they can, and want to, integrate back into society within a drug-free lifestyle.

Narconon wants to know: Has addiction hit a little too close to home?  Is addiction destroying your family?  Have all of your attempts to save your loved one failed?  Has he or she hit rock bottom?  If you have answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, it is time to act.  Unfortunately, the word “intervention” has become very common in today’s society, but when somebody has hit rock bottom, intervention is exactly what he or she needs.  There is a right way to stage an intervention and a wrong way.  If you want to ensure that your intervention works and that your loved one gets the Addiction Treatment that he or she needs, keep reading.

Things to be aware of when you think it’s time to organize an intervention:

  1. Be certain that your loved one is really suffering from Alcohol or Drug Addiction.  Look at his behavior and how it has changed.  Pay attention to how he interacts with friends and family members.  Get more than one opinion.
  2. Seek professional help.  Family members may have little experience dealing with conflict in a positive manner.  Intervention is not a time to condemn your loved one.  It is a time to show support.  Interventions can potentially turn violent, so having a professional involved will help to avoid the addict’s ability to manipulate members of the family.
  3. Present a united front as a family.  If the family is divided, it cannot stand firm in its goal.  Ensure that all family members who are committed to helping your loved one are there and ready to lend emotional support.  This presents a united front so your loved one can see that his or her entire family is supportive and in agreement.
  4. Address the addict with love and support, getting him the help he needs because you care.  This is not a time for anger or confrontation.
  5. Prepare!  Spend time with the professional you have chosen for your intervention.  Discuss everything with him.  Talk with each family member, sharing both good and bad experiences regarding your loved one.  Rehearse how you will share these experiences during the intervention.
  6. Do not ambush your loved one unless you have to.  If at all possible, let your loved one know you are having a serious meeting.  If you can’t do that, resort to the “white lie” and tell him there is a family get-together.  Just showing up at his home should be your last resort.
  7. Have an immediate course of action and treatment plan.  Set clear goals for the intervention.  The main goal is to get your loved one into a Rehabilitation Center for Drug and/or Alcohol Treatment.  Have this researched and chosen ahead of time.  Have a plan to get the addict into the rehab of your choice within 24 hours of the intervention.  Promises to “do it later” rarely come true.  Have the admission to the Treatment Center set up.  Have transportation and an escort ready to go.  Have plane tickets ready if necessary.  This way you can say, “We love you and your bed is waiting for you.”

By this point, your loved one has lost his ability to stop the substance abuse on his own.  His perceptions of the world have become so altered by his addiction that he simply cannot make rational choices anymore.  He doesn’t even remember how.

Substance abuse dumps toxic levels of chemicals into their bodies.  The lifestyle choices that support their addictions are self-destructive and only lead to further abuse.  They need their “fix” just to feel “normal” and they don’t care what it takes to get it.

We all know the signs of addiction, but it’s easy to turn our backs and pretend we don’t see the signs when our loved ones are caught in that cycle.  When they can’t break free for themselves, the ones who love and care about them need to intervene.  You have to be willing to help the addict take that first step to recovery.

Intervention can seem overwhelming and scary.  It’s not an easy thing and should not be underestimated.  Educate yourself.  Find a Narconon Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center that’s right for your loved one, such as Narconon Vista Bay.  Talk to an intervention specialist for help in scheduling this life-changing event.  Talk to family members and set up the admission to the rehab program so that everything is ready to go.  Then take a deep breath and realize that no matter how hard it is, you’re saving the life of someone you love.

S.H.
